Dan Kerszencwejg's Paintball Clinic

Dan "Snack" Kerszencwejg, one of the players for the 2003 NXL World Champions "Philadelphia Americans", recently held two paintball clinic sessions at Three Rivers Paintball Park, Pittsburgh, PA. The clinics were designed to teach players of various skill levels a wide range of advanced techniques including snap-shooting, field reading, gun positioning/set-ups, bunker playing, and ambidextrous shooting. Participants also ran dozens of drills to practice one-on-one jousting, shooting while running, and learning how to handle tough situations such as three on five or one on three. For the cost of $100, players received use of an Airball Field, one case of tournament-grade paint, Air/Co2 all day, lunch, and at least six hours of instruction/practice! No more than 10 players were allowed in each of the two sessions in order to keep a strong player to instructor ratio.

Dan Kerszencwejg has played competitive paintball for 13 year and has been on a pro team for seven of those years. Although Dan is very experienced at playing paintball, this was only the third clinic he has taught thus far. "It's not easy to teach different skill levels at a one-day event like this," said Kerszencwejg, "so in the future I hope to get one or two of my "Philadelphia Americans" teammates to help me so we can divide groups into sections and properly teach each player in terms of his or her own level of skill and knowledge." One thing that Dan focuses on is improvement, not necessarily overall skill. "When I'm teaching a group of players I don't let them put each other down just because one player may be more skilled than another… rather, I look at each individual and try to help them improve on their own scale." Dan added.

Post clinic player interviews reaped a landslide of praise for Dan Kerszencwejg and the clinic in general! "Even though my son and I are woods players," said Dr. Jack Leonard, "we found this clinic to be very helpful because the principles and skills we learned here also apply to the woods." Other players made statements such as, "The clinic really helped me with my game… it was well worth the 100 bucks!" and "It was awesome to play against a pro!" Most of the participants said that they especially enjoyed the running/shooting drills and the two on three scenarios. Players ranged in age between 15 and 50, and covered a wide variety of skill levels, yet everyone said that they had a great time learning something new!
